Secretary of State Office Closed to the Public Thurday, Feb. 20: With a Winter Weather Warning in effect for much of the day tomorrow, coupled with predicted treacherous driving conditions, the Secretary of State’s office will be closed to the public Thursday, February 20 for in-person transactions. This is for the safety of the public and our employees. All online services will remain available. Travel conditions may again be difficult Friday morning, so please check the website before attempting to come in person. Governor Stein has encouraged the public to stay off the roads if possible and to take steps to ensure you are safe during a possible power outage. Stay safe out there!
Beware of Misleading Mailings: With most Annual Reports due in April, this is the season to be on the lookout for misleading mailings. The three most common deceptive mailings we see at the NC Secretary of State’s Office are solicitations to file Annual Reports, Prepare Annual Minutes, or Obtain a Certificate of Existence. These mailings generally charge exorbitant fees, well above what it would cost to file on your own. Our misleading mailing section goes into more detail about how to spot one.
