The North Carolina Notary Manual, 2026

Secretary Marhsall announces the new manual's availability

The North Carolina Notary Manual, 2026 is available now from the UNC School of Government online bookstore.

This new edition, a single volume, provies comprehensive guidence on:

  • Traditional notarial acts
  • In-person electronic notarial acts
  • Remote electronic notarial acts
The Manual also will be available at local bookstores and online bookstors.

  • Dos and don’ts
  • Sample scripts and certificates
  • Statutes and rules
  • A glossary (print version) and word search (online version)
The 2026 edition is required for those taking the notary and electronic notary courses. It replaces the 2016 edition and guides notaries as they navigate the many statutory, rule, and technological changes since 2016.

Each physical copy of the new Manual includes a complimentary online version. Instructions to access it are included on the inside back cover of the paperback Manual.

Each notary is required by G.S. 10B-5(b)(7) to have their own copy of the 2026 Manual. It cannot be shared among multiple notaries in the same office.
