The Department of the Secretary of State is pleased to announce that it will offer an information meeting on Tuesday, January 14th, in connection with its third of three sets of rules implementing the Remote Electronic Notarization Act (RENA) and addressing the mandate found at G.S. 150B-21.3A requiring the review of existing rules every ten years. The public information meeting is not required by the NC Administrative Procedures Act and is in addition to the Public Hearing to take place Tuesday, February 4.
During the January 14 Information Meeting, the Department will provide an overview of the proposed rules, including:
1. The rulemaking process,
2. The technology provider application, licensure and approval processes,
3. The technology provider requirements,
4. The technological processes necessary to perform REN acts,
5. Requirements for notary seal manufacturers and vendors, and
6. The procedures for conducting RENs.
The Department may answer questions but cannot receive public comment at the information meeting. Public comment may be provided at the February 4th public hearing or in writing between January 2-March 3, 2025.
The informational meeting may be attended in-person or remotely, upon pre-registration and as space and the available technology allows.
